PROCRASTINATION

"You may delay, but time will not" -Benjamin Franklin
We've all been there. We're all victims of procrastination. For those of you who don't know what procrastination is, procrastination is when you have something you're suppose to do, but you don't do. You make excuses and you put it off for later.

For example: You're suppose to be revising an essay but you end up watching your favorite T.V. show.

If you're saying "I'm not a procrastinator" then you're lying to yourself. Procrastinating comes in many forms. Sometimes procrastinating is good. SOMETIMES. Here are the pros and cons of procrastination.

PROS:
  • Procrastination is a way of protecting you. Sounds odd right? But it's true. Sometimes procrastination can help you avoid getting into problems like doing something you're not ready for.
  • It gives you time to think and reevaluate about something.
  • It bubbles inspiration and new ideas.
  • Since procrastination takes time, this will allow an idea that you weren't very fond of to grow on you.
  • It recharges you mentally and physically.
CONS:
  • Can cause even more stress because while you're procrastinating, the work load is slowly growing.
  • You will most likely end up doing an all-nighter as a consequence. All-nighters equals major dark circles and dark circles do not look cute.
  • You have to quickly do everything. This is especially bad when you're rushing to do an essay because it'll unfortunately take a toll on your grade.
  • It's unprofessional.
Here are ways that you can avoid procrastination:
  • Make a list of what you need to do.
  • Distance yourself from distractions (T.V., computer, cell phones)
  • Create a schedule
  • Tell yourself "You need to finish this or you can't do this."
  • After you finish, treat yourself out to something
  • Do stuff little by little so it's not overwhelming. People tend to procrastinate because the work load is overwhelming. By doing stuff little by little, this will make it bearable.
It is a good thing to procrastinate sometimes, but do it sparingly. Look at the situation and rate the importance of it from a 1-10. If it's under a 5 then it's possible that you can procrastinate. Don't lie to yourself by rating the situation lower than it actually is.

But when procrastination does hit you, accept it. Don't try to push it away because it's a part of life. I'm one of those people who believes that everything happens for a reason and procrastination ( the ones that happens naturally) happens because it's trying to tell you something.
