HOW TO BE POSITIVE

 Photo: We Heart It
"You can, you should, and if you're brave enough to start, you will."
This is one of my most favorite quotes of all time. Why? Because it's true. Becoming a positive person isn't something that just happens overnight. You need to want it in order for it to happen. It's something that develops over a period of time.

I'm someone who always tries to see the positive in everything. Of course it's not easy but I still try. Have you guys seen the Nigahiga's How to Stay Positive Video? If you haven't, you can watch it here. But this is exactly how I am. My brain works like this in every negative situations. Why you ask? By doing this, it helps me get back to my feet and makes the situation more bearable.

We live in an imperfect world and we're bound to encounter negativity and this sadly, gets in the way. Negativity and Positivity are always constantly fighting to be the Alpha. Any Teen Wolf fans out there? If you do, you know how hard it is to become the Alpha.

I believe there is always something positive in every situtation—good or bad— you just have to find it.

Step 1: You Need to Want It
I can't stress this enough. In order to become a more positive person, you need to truly want it. This is honestly the most hardest step to take. People often think that you are either born into a negative or positive person. I also thought this. Let me tell you a secret, being negative or positive is a choice. Reread that last line again. Process it into your mind. Imprint it into your mind.

So yes, you can choose to become a positive person.

Put your feet down and say "I'm going to become a more positive person." Don't just say it blunty, say it with determination.

Step 2: Make Every Situation a Positive One
There is always something positive in every situation, you just need to sit down and think. Even if it's the tiniest thing it still counts.

You can start a "Positive Notebook" where every night before you go to bed you write down three positive things for that day. Not only does it make you see the positive in that day, it'll help trains your brain to becoming a more positive one. So the Positivity is slowly becoming the Alpha.

This is how my mind works. Earlier this week I got turned down from a job that I applied to. Normally, people would sulk about it. But for me, I thought "They didn't want to hire me because I was too good for them anyway." That was a very self-centered statement, but it helps you make the best out of a not so good situation. Don't say it out loud because it'll make you look bad.

Step 3: Distance Yourself Away From Negativity
This is easier said than done. Your heart is like a sponge, it soaks up every mood and emotions around you.

Before I made the choice of wanting a more positive lifestyle, I was hanging out with all of these people who were constantly negative about everything. This impacted the way I thought about things. Instead of seeing the positive in everything, all I saw were the negatives. I was miserable until a friend came up to me and taught me how to be happy about my life. The first step she told me was to get rid of all the negative people in my life.

This was emotionally hard for me to do. But I did it. You don't have to completely cut them off, you just need to distance yourself away from them.

Also, get rid of all the negative feelings inside of you so you can start new. A great way to do so is to go for a run, do some yogas, or even meditate. I like to go for a run every day so I can get rid of any excess negative feelings that my heart soaked up for that day.

Step 4: Have a Positive Harbor
You guys are probably wondering about the picture of the donut and how it has to do with this post.

There are times when you absolutely can't find the positives in a negative situation or just simply finding it didn't really help. This is when your positive harbor comes into play. It helps brighten your mood. For me, it's donuts. I like to go out and buy them or if I can't, I'll go look at pictures.

Your positive harbor can be a picture, a person, a song, your favorite food, or even exercise. It can be anything, as long as it brightens your mood and helps you forget. BUT NO DRUGS OR ALCOHOL.

Step 5: Treat Yourself
Not only does this make yourself happy, but it also makes your mind happy. It's like a "Thank You" present for your mind. It's telling your mind that it's doing a good job.

Buy yourself something, go on a vacation, or even go out to your favorite place to eat.

Don't forget to say "Good Job" to yourself. Don't forget to compliment yourself.

Don't be greedy and share your positivity with others. You don't have to go all out, you can just simply compliment others. For me, a compliment from someone instantly makes my day 10x better.
